A staggered approach is proven effective: loud at the bar and on the main floor, medium in the lounge, quiet in separated niches. This separation is created by furniture, not walls: high benches with backs, planters, changes in elevation. Niches with their backs to the wall are the most sought-after spots in the house and should be reservable.
What Truly Lasts at Night
Spilled alcohol, sugar, smoke, and mechanical stress are everyday occurrences. This leads to three rules. First: upholstery must be wipeable or washable, meaning pigmented leather, faux leather, or highly abrasion-resistant fabrics with a high rub count. Second: no open-pored materials on seating surfaces, so no bouclé and velvet only on backrests and wall surfaces; see velvet. Bar and Stools
The dimensions are the same as in a hotel: approximately 28 to 30 centimeters between the seat and the counter edge, 60 to 70 centimeters of counter length per stool, and a footrest is mandatory. In a club, bar stools without backrests allow for more turnover, while stools with backrests encourage guests to stay longer. Lighting
In a club, low light is appropriate, but not everywhere. The bar needs task lighting, pathways need enough light for safe movement, and seating areas should be dark. Low-level lighting on tables, such as hurricane lamps, contributes more to the atmosphere than any ceiling solution. A separate, brightly switchable cleaning circuit is essential; otherwise, cleaning will be done in semi-darkness in the morning.
