Proportion over Decoration
The style hinges on proportions. A bust on a pedestal that is too low appears lost, while on one that is too high, it seems oppressive. A useful rule: The object should measure approximately one-third to one-half of the pedestal's height, and the top edge of the object should be at eye level, i.e., around 150 to 160 centimeters. For mirrors above a console table, the following applies: mirror width should be approximately two-thirds of the console width, and there should be at least 15 centimeters of space between the console top and the bottom edge of the mirror.
Where the Style Works Best
In the entrance area, because a clear axis is inherently needed there, and a single strong visual element achieves more than many pieces of furniture.
