Hollywood Regency is the interior design of the film studios from the 1930s to the 1950s: a space that looks as if someone could descend a staircase at any moment. The style takes the geometry of Art Deco and turns the volume up. More mirrors, more color, more contrast, but always strictly composed.
The Characteristics
Mirrored surfaces are the hallmark, not only on the wall, but also as furniture surfaces. High color contrast: Black against white, plus a rich accent color field in emerald, pink, or royal blue. Glossy surfaces: Lacquer, polished brass, chrome, velvet with light reflection. Symmetry and pairs: two identical armchairs, two identical lamps, a central axis around which everything aligns.
How a Room is Created
The structure is always the same: build a stage, then perform on it. The stage is a calm, dark or very bright wall. In front of it comes the main piece of furniture, usually a console table or a sofa, above it a large mirror that opens up the wall and reflects light. To the left and right, the same in mirror image. A chandelier sets the highlight, and cushions in the accent color complete the composition.
The Difference to Art Deco

Common Mistakes
Too much gloss without counterbalance. If every surface reflects, the room appears restless and cold. Matte surfaces are needed: a wall in lime paint, a coarse rug, untreated wood. Symmetry only partially implemented. Almost symmetrical looks like an oversight. Either consistent or deliberately asymmetrical. Too many accent colors. One is enough.
