Eichholtz Wall Art

A blank wall is the most common reason why an otherwise fully furnished room appears unfinished. Pictures complete it, add color, and draw the eye to the correct height. Eichholtz wall art features framed prints, photographs, inlays, and objects, with frames coordinated to the metals of the other furnishings.

The Correct Height

The center of the picture should be approximately 145 to 150 centimeters above the floor, which is the average eye level when standing. This rule applies to free walls. Above a piece of furniture, a different rule applies: leave 15 to 25 centimeters between the top edge of the furniture and the bottom edge of the picture, then both will be perceived as a single unit. Above a sofa, pictures are usually hung lower than expected, as they belong to the sitting area, not the standing area.

Size in Relation to the Wall

Pictures that are too small are a classic mistake. A single picture above a piece of furniture should occupy about two-thirds of the furniture's width; several pictures together should do the same. Above a dresser 1.60 meters wide, this means approximately one meter of picture width. Where a large format cannot be found, a group can replace the single picture, but it must then be conceived as a block, not as scattered individual pieces.

Hanging Groups That Work

For a picture group, first define the outer shape, usually a rectangle. The distances between the frames remain consistent, five to eight centimeters is a good value, and they are narrower than the distance to furniture and door frames. Uniform picture frames hold a colorful selection together. If you prefer simplicity: a row of equally sized pictures on a line always works. Learn more in the guide Eichholtz Picture Frames.

Light on the Picture

An illuminated picture appears twice as large. Wall lights above the frame or spotlights at an approximately 30-degree angle hit the surface without reflecting. With glass in front of the picture, the angle is crucial, otherwise you will only see the light fixture in the reflection. In addition to pictures, wall accessories and a wall mirror fill empty spaces; a mirror also brings additional light into the room.
