Large Eichholtz Dining Table

Großer Eichholtz Esstisch

From 240 centimeters, a dining table becomes an integral part of the house. It can no longer be easily moved, it does not fit through every door, and it demands a room tailored to its presence. Within the Eichholtz range, this class extends up to 300 centimeters in tabletop length. This page calculates the seating capacity, the spatial requirements, and the logistical considerations for bringing such a piece into your home.

Seating Capacity Based on Length

Please allow 60 to 70 centimeters of table edge per place setting, adding one place at each end if the base permits:

  • 240 cm: eight seats, ten with end seats.
  • 260 to 270 cm: eight comfortable seats, ten without end seats.
  • 300 cm: ten seats along the long sides, twelve with end seats.

The width in this class ranges between 100 and 120 centimeters. Below 100 centimeters, place settings opposite each other become too close; above 120 centimeters, reaching the center becomes inconvenient. Both considerations are reflected in our assortment, with large tabletops almost consistently measuring 110 to 120 centimeters.

The space you truly need

The rule of thumb: table top dimensions plus 100 centimetres in each direction. A table measuring 300 by 115 centimetres therefore requires a free area of 500 by 315 centimetres, free of sideboards, radiators and door swing areas. This is where most plans fail: it's not that the table is too big, but that the sideboard on the long wall takes up the 100 centimetres that the pushed-back chair needs.

Please also check the doors. A door that opens into the room must not protrude into the chair area. With a 300 cm table in a passageway, this is almost always the reason for moving the table 20 centimetres out of the centre.

The Way into Your Home: This Is Where It Gets Serious

A 300-centimeter tabletop cannot be maneuvered in a stairwell. Before ordering, please measure four things, in this order:

  1. The narrowest door on the path, clear width with the door leaf unhinged.
  2. The turning circle in the stairwell: the diagonal of the landing. A 300 cm tabletop requires more than three meters of free diagonal space there, otherwise it will not fit around the corner.
  3. The elevator depth, if an elevator is involved. Most passenger elevators do not accommodate three meters, not even diagonally.
  4. The balcony or window as a fallback route. For very large tabletops, delivery via a lifting platform is sometimes the only way, and this should be clarified before ordering, not afterwards.

Delivery in this class is exclusively by freight forwarder, with the tabletop and frame in separate packages. Please expect two people and curbside delivery; all further details will be clarified individually beforehand >> Delivery times and shipping.

Large Tables in Commercial Settings

In hotels, restaurants, and conference rooms, in addition to size, reorderability is crucial: A table in a commercial setting rarely stands alone, and a second one should match in two years. For veneered tabletops, the color tone then depends on the batch, and for natural stone, on the slab. Those planning a series of identical tables should order them in one go, not sequentially. What hangs above a 300 cm table

A single luminaire cannot adequately illuminate a tabletop of this length. For tables over 240 centimeters, two or three luminaires should be arranged in a row, with equal spacing between them and each approximately 75 to 85 centimeters above the tabletop. The row should be shorter than the tabletop, otherwise it will appear like a second table in the air >> Chandeliers and Ceiling Lights.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a dining table for ten people be?

Approximately 300 centimeters if everyone sits along the long sides. With people seated at the ends, 240 to 260 centimeters are sufficient, provided the base allows for free ends.

How much space does a 300 cm table require in a room?

Approximately 500 by 315 centimeters of free space, which is the tabletop dimension plus 100 centimeters on each side for pushed-back chairs.

Will a 300 cm tabletop fit through a standard stairwell?

Often not. The critical factor is not the door width, but the diagonal of the stairwell landing. If there is less than three meters of free diagonal space, the tabletop will not make it around the corner, and an alternative delivery method will be required.
