Extendable dining tables are the exception, not the rule, in the Eichholtz range, and for good reason: an extension mechanism requires an apron, and an apron contradicts the floating top that most designs aim for. Where they do exist, the calculation for this is clear and verifiable in centimeters. This page shows what the extension offers, what space it costs, and what you need to consider when choosing chairs.

The dimensions, closed and extended
| Model | Length closed | Length extended | Width |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extendable Dining Table Atelier L | 280 cm | 350 cm | 100 cm |
| Extendable Dining Table Atelier S | 240 cm | 310 cm | 100 cm |
The increase in both sizes is 70 centimeters. This is not a random number: 70 centimeters corresponds exactly to one additional place setting per side, i.e., two people. An eight-seater table thus becomes a ten-seater, and a ten-seater becomes a twelve-seater. If you need more capacity, you will not find it in the extension, but in the next larger table size >> large dining tables.
The 80-centimeter table height is the point everyone overlooks
The extendable models stand 80 centimeters high, whereas 74 to 78 centimeters are common in the rest of the range. The four centimeters come from the apron that houses the mechanism, and they have two consequences.
Firstly, the chairs. There should be 27 to 30 centimeters between the seat and the underside of the table. With a table height of 80 centimeters minus the apron thickness, you will end up with a suitable seat height of about 48 to 50 centimeters, not the usual 45 to 47. A chair that fits perfectly at a 76 cm table will be too low here.
Secondly, the armrests. The apron lowers the clear height under the top. Please check the clear dimension between the bottom edge of the apron and the floor against the height of your armrest, otherwise the chair will permanently stand half a meter away from the table. Suitable models can be found in the selection of dining chairs, more detailed information is available on the page about Eichholtz dining chairs.

Where the extension goes
The table extends at the ends, not in width. Therefore, you do not need more room width, but an additional 70 centimeters of room length, in addition to the 90 to 100 centimeters of chair clearance at each end. Specifically: an extended table of 350 centimeters requires a room of approximately 550 centimeters in length so that chairs at the ends can still be pushed back. Please check this on the floor with tape beforehand, not just in your head.
The second point is the extension itself. The insert leaf must be stored somewhere when it is not in the table. When purchasing, please clarify whether it is stored within the table or needs to be stored separately, as a 70 by 100 centimeter leaf may not find a dust-free, flat place in every household. Store it flat, never leaning against a wall, otherwise it will warp.
Who truly needs an extension
Honestly, it is worthwhile if you usually dine with four to six people and host ten people several times a year. In this case, the extension replaces an oversized table that is in the way 350 days a year. If you are almost always fully seated anyway, a fixed top is the better choice: no joint in the middle, no apron, no storage issue, and the full selection of shapes and materials >> all dining tables.
Delivery time and delivery
Extendable models are available from stock in seven to ten days, depending on the version, or come from ongoing production with a lead time of ten to twelve weeks. Delivery is by freight forwarder. Since these tables with apron and mechanism are heavier than a simple top on trestles, please clarify the path into your home beforehand >> Delivery times and shipping.
Frequently Asked Questions
By how much can an Eichholtz dining table be extended?
By 70 centimeters. The smaller version extends from 240 to 310 centimeters, the larger from 280 to 350 centimeters. This corresponds to two additional place settings each.
What seat height do the chairs need?
Approximately 48 to 50 centimeters. The extendable models are 80 centimeters high, which is taller than the usual 74 to 78 centimeters, because they have an apron for the mechanism.
Where is the insert leaf stored?
Depending on the model, either in the table or separately. A separate leaf should be stored flat and dust-free, not leaning against a wall, otherwise it will warp.
