Gdansk is a port city, and this is evident in three things: the air, the light, and the spaces. The converted warehouses on the Motława feature brick walls, deep floor plans, and windows only on the gable ends. Furnishing these spaces means working against depth and humidity.
Brick requires warm backlighting
A visible brick wall absorbs light and darkens the room. More ceiling light won't help; instead, light on multiple levels is needed: wall lamps on the brick surface itself, floor lamps in the corners, and a wall mirror opposite the window to cast daylight deep into the room. Brass appears warmer against red brick than chrome >> Brass.
Salt air must be factored in
The Baltic Sea is less saline than the Mediterranean, but the effect is the same: unprotected metal parts will stain, especially on balconies and in rooms that are frequently ventilated. Coated finishes and furniture from the outdoor collection are the more durable choice on the waterside, even indoors.
Structuring deep spaces
A warehouse loft is long and narrow. Two seating areas placed one behind the other work better than one large one in the center, separated by a rug and a sofa placed perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. This creates two rooms in one, and the gaze does not get stuck at the far end.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which materials are suitable for coastal areas?
Coated metals and items from the outdoor collection. Unprotected steel and exposed brass will stain more quickly in salty air.
How do you bring light into a deep warehouse loft?
Through multiple lighting levels instead of a bright ceiling: wall lamps on the brick wall, floor lamps in the corners, and a mirror opposite the window.
How do you furnish a long, narrow room?
With two seating areas one behind the other instead of one large one in the center, separated by a rug and a sofa placed perpendicularly.
