Next to it belongs a side table for a cup and glasses, and behind or to the side, a floor lamp whose light falls over your shoulder onto the page. A reading spot without its own light will not be used.

Direct sunlight fades book spines within a few years, uniformly and irreversibly. Therefore, bookshelves should not be placed opposite a south-facing window, or curtains will be necessary.
