- Creating pauses. A console table with a vase in the middle of the hallway interrupts the continuous line.
- Considering the floor. A runner reduces impact sound and protects the flooring, especially on floors above guest rooms.
Stairwell and Elevator Lobby
The elevator lobby is where guests stand still for the longest time, and it is usually empty. A bench, a mirror, or a sculpture can turn waiting time into an experience. In the stairwell, height plays a role: a suspended chandelier in the stairwell opening is a classic choice, but it requires a tested ceiling mounting and a realistic plan for cleaning, as few people will be able to reach it later.

Rolling suitcases hit walls and furniture edges, cleaning carts brush against baseboards. Furniture in the hallway therefore needs robust edges and should be positioned so that the clear passage width is maintained, typically at least 1.20 meters.
