Cologne was largely destroyed during the war and quickly rebuilt afterwards. This still shapes the apartments today: many post-war buildings with ceiling heights of around 2.50 meters, interspersed with preserved old building districts, for example in the Belgian Quarter or in the Südstadt. For furnishing, this usually means: smaller rooms, cleverly furnished.
What works with 2.50 meter ceiling height
Large, tall furniture can quickly feel overwhelming here. Better are pieces that free up floor space: furniture on visible legs instead of plinths, a side table with a delicate frame instead of a massive block, a table lamp instead of a space-consuming ceiling solution. A mirror opposite the window brings light deep into the room, which is the most effective single measure in narrow floor plans. More on this under Eichholtz Side Tables.
The hallway as a calling card
In many Cologne apartments, the hallway is narrow and dark, but is traversed every day. With a narrow console table, a mirror above it, and wall lighting instead of ceiling lighting, it can be transformed from a passageway into a room in an afternoon. How to set this up is described in the guide Luxurious Entrance Area Furnishing.
Short distances to the Rhineland
For delivery to Cologne: parcel goods arrive without prior notice, large items by freight forwarder with telephone appointment, stock items in 7 to 10 days. In the city center and in the narrow streets of the old building districts, a no-parking zone is usually required, please clarify this early. Details under Eichholtz Delivery Time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which furniture fits in rooms with 2.50 meter ceilings?
Those that leave floor space visible: furniture on slender legs, low seating heights, delicate frames. Tall, closed cabinets make the room appear lower.
Do I need a no-parking zone for delivery?
In narrow city center streets, often yes. The forwarding agent will tell you when making the appointment whether it is possible without one.
